Two national award-winning dancers perform, play and create live-in-person with you! Lucy and Tara will warm you up, performing two stunning works before they open up the floor to your suggestions for creation-on-the-spot! Come armed with a phrase, image, thought to stimulate and/or stump our Dueling Divas. A very special interactive performative evening of dance and artistic creation.

Tara began her dance career with The National Ballet of Canada after graduating from the National Ballet School. She then danced for The Alberta Ballet and was a celebrated Principal dancer for Canada’s Ballet Jorgen for 16 years. Bengt Jörgen created many lead roles in full length ballets for Tara including Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Anastasia, Coppelia, and The Nutcracker. She has guest performed internationally with The Hong Kong Ballet, The Ohio Ballet, Banff Festival Ballet and The Miami Hispanic International Ballet Festival. She has worked with many of Canada’s most sought after choreographers including Gioconda Barbuto, Roberto Campanella, Allison Cummings, Robert Desrosiers, Robert Glumbek, Allen Kaeja, Karen Kaeja, Malgorzata Nowacka-May, Crystal Pite, Kathleen Rea, and Wen Wei Wang. She is the Artistic Director of Dust and Soul Dance, Waterloo Regions’ award-winning contemporary dance company.

Lucy Rupert is a dancer, choreographer, art-science researcher, environmentalist, and founder of Blue Ceiling dance. Through Blue Ceiling she creates, performs and commissions works of contemporary dance and multidisciplinary performance. Lucy also freelances, performing performer with companies including Fujiwara Dance Inventions, Theatre Rusticle, Chartier Danse, Puppetmongers Theatre, Nova Dance, and Anandam Dance among others. Her work has been presented throughout Canada, in New York and Germany. Recently, she was an artist-in-residence at Ucross Foundation in Wyoming, USA. Lucy was a finalist in the Inaugural Johanna Metcalf Performing Arts Awards (2019), a commissioned choreographer for the Choreographic Workshop at the National Ballet of Canada (2019) and Audience choice award winner at dance: made in Canada festival (2017). Lucy has a double BA in Dance and Music from the University of Waterloo (the singular degree of this kind ever awarded by the university), an MA in History (University of Toronto) and is currently studying philosophy through Oxford University. She lives in a magical neighbourhood full of coyotes and old trees in Toronto/Tkaronto.
