Tara began her dance career with The National Ballet of Canada after graduating from the National Ballet School. She then danced for The Alberta Ballet and was a celebrated Principal dancer for Canada’s Ballet Jorgen for 16 years. Bengt Jörgen created many lead roles in full length ballets for Tara including Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Anastasia, Coppelia, and The Nutcracker. She has guest performed internationally with The Hong Kong Ballet, The Ohio Ballet, Banff Festival Ballet and The Miami Hispanic International Ballet Festival. She has worked with many of Canada’s most sought after choreographers including Gioconda Barbuto, Roberto Campanella, Allison Cummings, Robert Desrosiers, Robert Glumbek, Allen Kaeja, Karen Kaeja, Malgorzata Nowacka-May, Crystal Pite, Kathleen Rea, and Wen Wei Wang. She is the Artistic Director of Dust and Soul Dance, Waterloo Regions’ award-winning contemporary dance company.

Lucy Rupert is a dancer, choreographer, art-science researcher, environmentalist, and founder of Blue Ceiling dance. Through Blue Ceiling she creates, performs and commissions works of contemporary dance and multidisciplinary performance. Lucy also freelances, performing performer with companies including Fujiwara Dance Inventions, Theatre Rusticle, Chartier Danse, Puppetmongers Theatre, Nova Dance, and Anandam Dance among others. Her work has been presented throughout Canada, in New York and Germany. Recently, she was an artist-in-residence at Ucross Foundation in Wyoming, USA. Lucy was a finalist in the Inaugural Johanna Metcalf Performing Arts Awards (2019), a commissioned choreographer for the Choreographic Workshop at the National Ballet of Canada (2019) and Audience choice award winner at dance: made in Canada festival (2017). Lucy has a double BA in Dance and Music from the University of Waterloo (the singular degree of this kind ever awarded by the university), an MA in History (University of Toronto) and is currently studying philosophy through Oxford University. She lives in a magical neighbourhood full of coyotes and old trees in Toronto/Tkaronto.

Colin Boyd Shafer (b. 1983) is a Canadian documentary photographer and social sciences educator born in Kitchener, Ontario. Shafer holds an MSc in Political Economy of Violence Conflict and Development from SOAS, University of London.

In 2016, Shafer was chosen by the Governor General of Canada to photograph inspiring Order of Canada recipients. These portraits are featured in Figure 1 Publishing’s “They Desire A Better Country” (2017), a book that commemorates Canada’s 150th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Order of Canada.

Colin’s latest project was recently released. “Finding American: Stories of Immigration features stories of immigrants living in each of the 50 states. In close collaboration with the participants, documentary photographer Colin Boyd Shafer creates intimate audio-visual essays telling the story of each individual’s birth outside of the United States, their unique journey to their new home, as well as their hopes and dreams for the future.”

Robin Claire Fox is a Hamilton based photographer whose highly cinematic work has been getting a lot of buzz. Her recent book was published by Sentanta Books out of the UK. “This is my visual rhapsody. Many of these images highlight the connection and relationships typical of our family, adding depth to the storytelling and meaning to the photographs themselves. I strive for a unique perspective from which to tell each story to capture our distinct family dynamic and experience.”

Originally from Northern Ireland, Karl Griffiths-Fulton graduated from the University of Ulster and Napier University, Edinburgh with degrees in Fine Arts and Photographic Studies.

Before coming to Canada, he worked for the London School of Economics and Political Science and the BBC News and Current Affairs. Since then, he has taught at the University of Waterloo and Pumphouse Visual Arts Centre, Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Along with his photography career, Karl has also worked in book publishing since 2007. He currently runs Stonegarden Studios — a not-for-profit publisher specializing in fine art, poetry and short prose.

Griffiths-Fulton has had six books of his work published, with his latest book, with Canadian writer, Tamas Dobozy, due out in August this year, published by Quartepress, Georgia, USA.

LVCS’s Ron Tucker is a much awarded large format film photographer as well. “Tucker’s work is more than a little reminiscent of the work of Walker Evans… not to imply that he’s derivative of Evans’ oeuvre, but rather that his eye has an un-erring way of seeking out what is important in the landscape (wherever he may be) around him. What some may find mundane or inconsequential, Tucker’s lens interprets as strength, symmetry, and beauty.” Ron’s work was seen regularly in Black and White Magazine.

Tanis MacDonald (she/they) is the author of Straggle: Adventures in Walking While Female, Mobile: poems, The Daughter’s Way, and four other books. With Ariel Gordon, Tanis co-edited the special “Moving on Land” issue of The Goose (2023). Tanis serves as the General Editor of the Laurier Poetry Series, hosts the podcast Watershed Writers, and has twice been longlisted for the CBC Poetry Prize. She is a Professor in the Department of English and Film Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, and is currently working on a new poetry manuscript.

Chris Banks is an award-winning, Pushcart-nominated Canadian poet and author of seven collections of poems, most recently Alternator with Nightwood Editions (Fall 2023). Ashley Hynd is a poet with mixed ancestry who lives on the Haldimand Tract and respects the Attawandron, Anishnawbe, and Haudenosaunee relationships with the land. Like many people with mixed heritage, the full knowledge of her history is unclear. Her writing grapples with the erasure of her history and is as much an act of reclamation as it is a call of accountability for what has been lost. She was shortlisted for Arc Poem of the Year in 2018 and won the Pacific Spirit Poetry Prize in 2017. Her poetry has appeared in Arc Poetry Magainze, Canthius, Room Magazine, Prism International, among other publications.

Scott Wicken is a singer/songwriter and spoken word artist based in Waterloo. Originally, he performed spoken word poetry at festivals, in bars, art galleries and coffeeshops in Ontario and western Canada. He transitioned into songwriting in the early ’90’s and also found himself co-writing and acting in comedic theatre. Wicken has released a handful of recordings and published a book, Just Another One Night Stanza. He dabbles in audio recording, video, drawing mandalas, photography and web design.
